When someone sends a fax to your number our system will either divert the fax to the fax machine you have chosen, or it will convert the fax into an email attachment and send it to you. When you receive the email containing the fax, simply open the attachment using one of the recommended viewers. The following options are available for your faxes settings.
| File Format | Relative size | Page format |
|---|---|---|
| DCX | Multi page format | |
| PCX | Single page format | |
| Multi page format |
| Email Format |

The DCX format was chosen partly because Win95, 98 and NT come bundled with the program "Imaging" which Windows automatically uses as the default DCX viewer. This way most of our customers are not required to purchase/obtain any new software. DCX is also one of only a few formats which can handle multiple pages in a single file, and it has a satisfactory compression level. Besides the DCX format, you can also choose to receive their faxes as PCX (note: DCX is the multipage version of PCX) or PDF, a multiple page format by Adobe, famous for its free "Acrobat" software which is included on most free software CD-Roms, or can be downloaded from their site (http://www.adobe.com).
| Operating System | Recommended File Format | Recommended Software | Software location | Product Info |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, ME, NT 4.0 | DCX | Imaging | Included with OS | Good general image viewer. |
| Windows XP | DCX | Irfanview | www.irfanview.com (800kb) | Sophisticated package |
| MAC | DCX | GraphicConverter | www.lemkesoft.de (68kb) | Good versatile package. |
| Most good OS's | Adobe Acrobat | Probably included on system or free CD-Rom. Also www.adobe.com (8.9mb) | No Screen Rotate |
Imaging: Default location for Windows 95, 98, WinNT 4.0 or later (Not XP) is <Start>/<Programs>/<Accessories>/<Imaging>.
There is a problem with the Imaging program in that by default it
opens a fax in Preview Mode, which does not seem to have the option of
changing the print zooming.
Select File | Open Image for Editing.
To fix this problem once and for all:
1 Select File | Open Image for Editing
2 A dialog box should pop up, Accept the invitation to open images in edit mode
3 Observe that you are in editing mode now
4 Select File | Print Options and set the print format 'fit to page'.
Early problems with Printer driver compatibility: In Windows 98 version of Imaging, you should set the default to Imaging mode by choosing <tools>/<General Option>/[Imaging]
Adobe: No on screen rotate facility.
