Ofcom changes to 0870 tariffs and free Parallel Migration offer

0870 numbers have changed!

0870 in crosshairs

From 1 August 2009, new Ofcom regulations mean that rates are changing on 0870 numbers. We're not happy about these changes, but if you have an 0870 number it's important to understand how they affect you.

The changes require mobile and fixed-line providers to charge the same or less for 0870 calls as for geographic numbers. As a result, you may find that your costs increase.

FREE migration to a more suitable number

As a result of the changes, you may decide to move to a different number range with more suitable pricing options. So dmClub has created an easy and FREE Parallel Migration offer that will make migration as fast, smooth and straightforward for you as possible.

How will the tariff changes affect me?

Since 01 August 2009, it is no longer free to receive calls on your 0870 number. So if you have an 0870 number you may need to add credit to your account in order to receive calls. dmClub loaned 2 credit to each account just before the tariff change, but that may not be enough to cover your use of the number.

01 Sep 09: Customer feedback so far has been that unless call usage is over 60 minutes/month the costs of migrating (eg changing letterheads) are higher than bearing the slight increase in charges. In other words, there's no point in migrating unless you get a lot of calls.

Not sure whether it's worth it for you? Click here for instructions on how to check your call usage.

The changes will have other effects as well, depending on your 0870 number range. See below for more details.

What kind of 0870 number am I?

dmClub customers use two different 0870 number ranges: 'Legacy' and 'Current'. The changes will affect you differently depending on what your number begins with. Check below to see how the changes will affect you.

My 0870 number begins 0870 446 you have a Current 0870 number.

As well as free diversion to UK landline numbers, Current 0870 numbers used to offer up to a 2ppm payout rate. This will no longer be the case.

If you have a Current 0870 number, you can choose to do one of the following:

  • For our dmConnect customers only, set up a free redirect to a VoIP trunk.
  • Continue using your existing 0870 number - see "What's included in the offer" for the rates
  • Migrate to a new number from the 0844, 0871, 020-7 or UK Local number ranges using the FREE Parallel Migration offer (see below).

My 0870 number begins 0870 08 or 0870 80 you have a Legacy 0870 number.

The Legacy numbers used to divert to UK Landline numbers for free. This will no longer be the case. Note that dmClub are giving all legacy numbers a monthly allocation of 30 mins of "FreeTime" and a loan of 2 to ease the transition period.

If you have a Legacy 0870 number, you can choose to do one of the following:

  • Continue using your existing 0870 number at the new UK Geographic rate of 5.25p/minute.
  • Migrate to a new number from the 0845, 0871, 020-7 or UK Local number ranges using the FREE Parallel Migration offer (see below).

FAQs

Why do I have to pay? It's not my fault that I have to migrate my number!

We agree with you. But the changes have been decided by Ofcom, so there is nothing we can do.

My 0870 number has stopped working. What's going on?

Since 01 August 2009, it is no longer free to receive calls on your 0870 number. So if you have an 0870 number you may need to add credit to your account in order to receive calls. dmClub loaned 2 credit to each account just before the tariff change, but that may not be enough to cover your use of the number. If it wasn't enough, then you will not have been able to receive calls.

How much will it cost me to migrate?

For your new number

Line rental on your new number will be FREE for as long as you have both numbers running in parallel.

For your old number

You will have to pay any usage charges during the migration period. Costs for calls to the old number during the migration period depend on your number's Tariff Generation.

To find out your Tariff Generation, follow these steps:

1. Go to your Clubhouse

2. Click on the number you want to check. Click on the General tab in the control menu.

Control Menu

3. The last row in the Status box (see image above) shows your Tariff generation (TrfGen).

Tariffs

  • If you're on T1, your tariff will be 3.50p/minute. (You can change to T2 on request - just let Support know when you contact us)
  • If you're on T2, your costs will be 1.25p/minute
  • If you're on T0 you'll be charged 5.25p/minute (but you get 30 minutes/month free)

I have a dmFax 0870 number. Is it affected?

Yes - if you have a dmFax 0870 number you now need to pay for inbound faxes and the connection charge. This is typically a few pence per 2-page fax.

What discounts can I get on Gold numbers?

If you already have a Gold number, you can choose any new Gold number up to the value of any previous gold fee on your old number - and it won't cost you a penny.

If you already have a Gold number, but would like a higher value number, we'll give you a 50% discount on the difference between your current Gold fee and a higher value Gold fee.

For example, if you have already paid a 200 Gold fee for your number and want a new number with a 500 Gold fee, you will only pay a total of 150 (half the difference between your old and new Gold fees) to migrate to a 500 number!

I want to keep getting payouts on inbound calls. What number range should I choose for my new number?

Payouts are no longer available on 0870 numbers. But if you would like a number that pays out, the following options may suit you:

0844 number on any dmConnect tariff

  • Service rate FREE for the migration period, then from 3/month
  • Pays out from 1.2ppm

0871 number on dmClub's 'Pro' tariff

  • Service rate FREE for the migration period, then 5/month
  • Pays out from 4.9ppm

I'm not sure whether to migrate yet. How long have I got to decide?

You have until 31 December 2009 to take up the 0870 Parallel Migration offer. Once you've taken up the offer, you can choose how long you want to keep both numbers running - just tell us what month end you'd like your migration completion date.

dmClub can support a migration period (the time you are running both numbers in parallel) of up to 3 years.

How do I check my call logs to see how much usage I am currently placing through my 0870 number?

Please follow these steps:

2 Under the "Service Controls" heading, click on your 0870 number

Click on your number

3 This will pop up your number control panel
