Webphone: Getting Started
The WebPhone is a Flash-based control that enables you to login to a dmSwitchboard12 account as a particular user in order to make and receive calls over the Internet.
You can actually be concurrently logged in to more than one account
We recommend the use of a headset with WebPhone, and generally find the USB type to be less hassle setting-up on a PC.
As with most VoIP terminals, if your ADSL is a bit flakey, then your call quality will suffer, but on a good line, you should be able to get 5 or 6 users talking simultaneously.
Browser compatibility
Updated October 2015.
Some browser vendors have recently removed NSAPI (the Netscape Plugin API) from their browsers. Since NSAPI is currently required by the webphone, this means that the webphone no longer works in certain browsers. Chrome, in particular, can no longer be used with the webphone.
If you wish to continue using the webphone please choose a browser form list of supported browsers below.
Alternatively, consider installing a dedicated desktop VOIP application, such as X-Lite, which will give better performance.
Supported browsers
- IE11 (recommended)
- IE10
- Opera
- Firefox (usually works, although we have occasional reports of problems)
Unsupported browsers
- Chrome (v45+)
- Safari
Recommended desktop alternatives
If you can't use a browser that supports the webphone we recommend that you use a dedicated softphone app, such as X-Lite.
Webphone setup
Options
You can change some of the launch parameters in the Clubhouse Settings page (conveniently accessible via the spanner icon). We recommend the use of HTTPs and POST to preserve your security (be aware that if hackers get your login details, they can make calls at your expense).
Technical Information
It uses TCP, rather than UDP, which can mean that you don't have to make changes to your router/firewall setup.
Entering "another account" to provide your own credentials
#5035 to get your user credentials
Transform your user credentials, so that they are suitable for entry into the "other account" entry.
Server: take the SIPproxy/host and do a lookup and enter the ip address of the server (e.g. 004-0044.sb12.dmclub.org might be turned into 178.79.178.225)
Username: take the SIPusername, append a "@" and the server, then enter it into Username (e.g. 0044301 is entered as 0044301@178.79.178.225)
Password: take the SIPpassword and enter it into Password
It's a bit clunky, but most of the time you will never need to enter these credentials, as it should be done for you automatically.
Advanced Topics
Screen Popping - Switchboards can be configured to "pop" web pages relevant to an incoming call. This might be a page in a CRM system, a Wiki page or just a website that you may need to refer to when answering calls. See here for more
Click2Call (C2C) - For seamless integration with our own address book or CRM system, the WebPhone can be triggered to make calls by a web hit. See here for more
