Background
dmAnswers "Classic" runs on our old GenX platform, which is being retired.
All services on GenX are being migrated to the new "GenU" platform.
The GenU version of dmAnswers, dmAnswers14, is actually a dmConnect12 service working in a special mode.
See more about dmAnswers14 here: #0017 dmAnswers 14
What's going to happen?
In order to make life easy for users of this service, there is an automated upgrade process that transfers their number to a new "dmConnect12" service with dmAnswers14 set up. This should be almost identical to the old service.
During this process, your account will be loaned the funds for a 6-month period for the new service - this will have to be paid back, but you will get reminders on this. Any residual fees paid for dmAnswers classic will be refunded.
You will get more emails to confirm that migration has started, and when it has succeeded (or failed!).
Any changes for me?
- The ability to divert calls live to other destinations or voicemail
- A different way to set up the answering (using dmConsole)
- Different, generally cheaper, pricing (instead of paying £19.95/month, it's £3/month with a per-message charge of about £1.16, depending on how long the call lasts)
- Better email and SMS notification including recording of the conversation
Please note that the cost of answering is taken from the dmCalls12 account - if the dmCalls12 account runs out of funds, message-taking will stop. dmCalls12 should have sensible auto-top-up values to take funds from the main account.
Do I have to?
dmAnswers classic stop working in August 2019, and so you can't continue with dmAnswers classic past that time.
Obviously you can cancel your service at any time. Migration will have no effect on this.
